Greetings from the President

​Welcome, and thank you for accessing our official website!

 

The Nanka Yamaguchi Kenjinkai or Southern California Yamaguchi Kenjinkai was formally established in 1905. Our organization consists of descendants, families, friends and enthusiasts of the Yamaguchi Prefecture. We generally meet twice a year. First, in mid-February for a general meeting, New Year’s party social event and our Respect for the Elderly recognition. Then in June, for our annual summer picnic gathering and scholarship awards. Other activities include Tanabata Festival participation, a bowling tournament, and other special events.

 

In 2025, we will be commemorating our 120th Anniversary on February 23rd, in the year of the “Snake.” We look forward to seeing all our members across the generations celebrate with us. It is our wish to pass on this legacy organization to our future leaders. We are always looking for new members who not only have ties to Yamaguchi, but also who just love the cultural sites, shrines, aspects and unique flavors of Yamaguchi. It’s free to join, so please contact us if you are interested.

 

Nanka Yamaguchi Kenjinkai is a 501(c)3 not for profit corporation and is solely sustained by the support and generosity of our members and community.

Mission Statement

​

The mission of the Nanka Yamaguchi Kenjinkai is to:

1. Promote camaraderie among our members with the shared virtues of our mother prefecture, which includes its history, unique charm, rich natural beauty and culture of each city.

​

2. To enhance the education and awareness of all things Yamaguchi, to its members and especially involve the younger members of the Kenjinkai. Thereby, developing new leaders that are proud to carry on the tradition for future generations.

​

3. To promote and participate in cultural exchanges of our prefecture, both domestically and internationally.​
